Winterthur, Switzerland, 2021/23
Installation
Concept, proposal:
For the December exhibition 2023 at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur adapted installation of the temporary intervention in the old bus depot (project space Kunst im Depot, Halle F) in Winterthur from August 2021.
Components of the adapted installation proposal:
- One half of the double-sided cotton curtain that I had used in the bus depot
- 1 Photograph: Research photograph from the Winterthur City Archives, Volkart Collection: STAW Dep. 42/1569.3 (Hamilton Studios Ltd., Bombay), Amraoti Office, 1957, District Agent, R. Umbricht, Engineer D.V. Sahasrabudhe
- 1 leaflet (newspaper)
The project:
Dyers Road, Weavers Road, Silk Road, ...
The bus depot, which used to be a depot for streetcars, stands in the middle of a quarter where the street names are reminiscent of the time when Winterthur was one of the most important locations for the textile trade and textile production in Switzerland.
In the depot, I have placed various things in relation to each other, which tell of different times and from different perspectives. Their common point of intersection is cotton and the trade in it.
What does Gustave Courbet's painting 'The Wave' have to do with cotton?
The leaflet documents the one-day exhibition in the depot, where I guided visitors in small groups through the 300m2 hall and explored this question.
