Frühling, Sommer, Herbst und Winter - Studio ID, Berlin Lichtenberg, 2019‑2021
(Spring, summer, autumn and winter)
Video-double projection,
Full HD, Audio, 28min
Studio ID is a big artist studio community in a part of a building complex which today is under the protection of historic monuments.
During the time of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) the Ministry of State Security (Ministerium für Staatssicherheit / MfS) had their offices and their workshops here. At that time it was called Operativ-Technischer Sektor (OTS); here they produced devices for surveillance, for example bugging devices.
The building as well as the prison Untersuchungshaftanstalt Hohenschönhausen were within a restricted area, not accessible for the citizens of the GDR. Apart from the members of the MfS nobody knew anything about what there was in the building nor what was going on within the area.
Today the prison is a memorial site.
On the occasion of the exhibition Unblockfairartfair I am showing the video work Frühling, Sommer, Herbst und Winter in the same studio from which I made the footages for the work.
The video deals with the view from the window onto the former prison and reflects on time, architecture and power.
